Types of Water Lines
Water lines are made from a variety of materials, including copper, polybutylene, and PVC. The type of water line you have in your home can affect the types of repairs that are needed.
These metal pipes were used mainly during the 50 year period between 1930 and 1980. They are no longer used in homes today due to their proneness to rusting and corrosion in addition to their lead content.
Copper water lines tend to last for decades, but eventually, the line can become corroded and need to be replaced. Corrosion can be difficult to see, but it can cause a brownish-orange stain to appear on the walls near the water line. If you notice any discoloration on your walls, contact a professional to have the water line replaced.
Polybutylene pipes were used as an alternative to copper in the 1980s. Unfortunately, polybutylene pipes are prone to failure, particularly when they become corroded. When polybutylene pipes fail, the result is a toxic chemical called "tetrahydrofuran" that enters the water supply. If you have polybutylene pipes, you should have them replaced immediately.
Polyvinyl chloride, better known as PVC, is a popular choice for water lines, especially for cold water lines. PVC pipes are inexpensive and easy to install. However, they are prone to bursting and need to be replaced after about 20 years.
Chlorinated PVC pipes are the chlorinated version of normal PVC pipes. The chlorine makes this type of piping safe for transporting drinking water and allows the pipe to carry hot water—something normal PVC pipes can’t do. CPVC is even more flexible than normal PVC!
One of the newest types of water lines on the current market. These pipes are a durable plastic alternative that are extremely flexible and versatile. Since they are quite resistant to heat, PEX pipes are great for transporting hot water and are even used for radiant floor heating. They’re also a much quieter option than other pipes on the market. Additionally, they’re inexpensive and easy to cut and work with!

Signs You Need Water Line Repair
A leaky water line is a common plumbing problem that can result in damaged flooring, walls, and even a mildew smell. A slow leak can go undetected for a long time, so it’s important to be vigilant
Common signs of a water line leak include:
Mildew smell in one area of your home
A wet spot on your floor, even when no other leaks are present
A high water bill, even when no other leaks are present
Wet spots on your walls or ceiling
Rust or stains on your walls or flooring
A sudden spike in your water bill
If you notice any of these symptoms, contact a plumber to have your water line checked. The sooner a leaky water line is repaired, the less damage it can cause.

AVERAGE Based on 16 reviews Posted on Jessica D.Verified I spent weeks looking for the right company to replace two boilers at my work. Told Plumbing's customer service and bid won them the project. They were able to get the project scheduled rather quickly and even considered the weather so as not to cause too much disruption to our office conditions. The employees assigned to the week long project were professional, trustworthy, and independent workers, meaning they didn't interrupt our work. They left the work space clean and were very polite. The billing portion was simple and timely. And after two months, we have not had any trouble with the new boilers and we have reliable heat. I will use Told Plumbing again for both work and personal projects.Posted on Timothy S.Verified Thank goodness for Told Plumbing. Nothing worse than a cold shower at 6 am before work. Well, that was yesterday. Isaac came out after hours to help us. He did the best he could with the old unit in our new place, but to no avail, the thing was too far gone. Flash forward to today, Isaac was back by 12:30pm with his assistant Ron. The two of them had the old unit out, the new one in in about an hour, all connected, and the entire work area was clean and back to normal. They even carted off the old unit. And they did all this to the serenade of three barking dogs without missing a beat. I have their magnet front and center on the fridge should any other plumbing issues arise. If you have not guessed by now, yes, I wholeheartedly recommend this company. Ask for Isaac!!!!Posted on Alice A.Verified We use Told Plumbing for their Handyman services. Several times we've had Marlin come out and he can do everything! He explains things well and will tell you what could be done before hand to save you money. I've never had a bad job done by them. I think the prices are very reasonable as well.Posted on CheapSeat S.Verified I replaced our water heater 8 years ago. I bought one at Lowes and installed it myself. (I hate paying people to do stuff I can do.) It had a 12 year factory warranty. It sprung a leak this week so I called Whirlpool about the warranty and they wouldn't go past the fact I'm not a licensed plumber. So I called Told Plumbing and told them I just wanted a new one installed, since I'm now a bit handicapped can't haul water heaters around any more. The guy that does the work called me and asked me about the brand/warranty and where I got it. When he got here, he said he'd take care of it. He ripped it out, hauled it down to Lowes, and got them to replace it for free with a newer model! He ended up only charging me for the installation which was less than the cost of the new water heater itself. Woot! THAT is what I call customer service! The guy's name is "JP"
